Use the map for pattern finding
Map color helps reveal clusters, state borders, and metro-area differences that are hard to spot in a table.
Pair it with ZIP pages
A map cell is only a starting point. ZIP pages show annual tax, home value, state comparison, and data confidence.
Verify local boundaries
ZCTAs approximate ZIP codes and do not always match school district, municipal, or parcel boundaries.
Reading the property tax map
Property tax maps are most useful when they are read comparatively. A darker or higher-rate area does not automatically mean a worse place to buy, and a lower-rate area does not guarantee a lower total bill. Home values, exemptions, school districts, special assessments, and reassessment rules all matter.
This map uses U.S. Census Bureau ACS 2019-2023 ZIP Code Tabulation Area data. Use it to narrow the search, then open the ZIP page and check the local assessor before relying on a number for a specific property.
